Thowadrak Gonpa currently has a total of 23 residents which include one Lopon (teacher), nine Tshampas (meditators), Gomchens and Anis. The Gonpa until today mainly functioned as Drubdey (meditation centre); and like other gonpas and dratshangs, it does not provide elaborate shedra studies, however important lessons categorized into zhirim (primary or basic) and thorim (advanced level) are provided to Drubdepas.
At the zhirim (primary) level, studies of writing, reading, memorization of ritual arts, prayers, studying grammars are taught while at the higher level are taught Bodhicaryavatara (Chodjug), Kunzang Lamai Zhalung (Words of My Perfect Teacher), kye-dzog (Development and Completion), Ngondro (preliminary) and Ngoezhi (main) practices that involve recitation, training, Guruyoga practice, three year retreat, tsa-lung thrulkhor, mind training, etc.
Interested youth who would like to take up religious life of practice and meditation are requested to join this gonpa. The gonpa management looks forward to providing modern facilities of both food provisions and religious education equal to that of other religious institutions in the country.
